THE LOCATION

Laveno is an important touristic attraction all year around, especially thanks to its mild climate, extremely favorable in all seasons.
The center of town, where Portolabieno's marina is located, overlooks a large natural bay facing the town of Verbania. Two small fortresses, military fortifications built during the Austrian dominion, can be admired at both ends of the bay.
The eighteenth-century alleys and courtyards are beautifully preserved in the historical center of town.
The lake front, with its many shops and terraced cafés, is the preferred destination for walking around especially during holidays. Every Tuesday a large open market is hosted in the center of town.

In the village of Cerro, also part of of Laveno Mombello municipality, is located the Perabò Palace which houses the Perabò International Museum of Ceramic Design or Civic Collection of Pottery.
The museum displays objects of everyday use and beautiful artifacts, fruit of Laveno ceramics tradition.
Events such as the August 15th Fireworks, the MiPAM (Annual Exhibition of products and animals from the surrounding areas) also in the month of August, and the underwater Nativity during Christmas time, attract many visitors every year. From the center of town, a system of cable cars climbs to the top of Monte Sasso del Ferro (1100 m above s.l,) Where one can admire a breathtaking view of Lake Maggiore, the Borromeo Islands, the mountain range of Monte Rosa, the peaks of the Alps and other small lakes.
Laveno is one of the largest ports of Lake Maggiore where, from its pier, a public ferry service connects all Italian and Swiss lakeside locations.
Picturesque villages rise along the Lake shores with their characteristic harbors.

Among the most interesting attractions are the Borromean Islands, Santa Caterina del Sasso, Villa Taranto's botanical Gardens, the fortress of Angera, and Cannero's castles. Two railroad stations, Ferrovie Nord and Ferrovie dello Stato, connect Laveno to major areas in Italy and Switzerland.
